About The Organisers

 

Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI) was established in 1948 under the
auspices of the Council of Scientific Industrial Research (CSIR) in Chennai to cater to
the needs of the Indian leather sector. The institute since its establishment has
paved way for the move of Indian leather sector from a predominant raw material
exporter to that of finished leather and leather products. Through strategic
interventions with cleaner leather processing technologies, bio based leather
processing methods, composite based leather products, fashion forecasting etc CLRI
today strives to enable the global leather sector meet its challenges and seek
opportunities in global leather trade.


Leather Technologists' Association (India), was formed in the year 1950 under
Presidentship of Prof. BM Das. This association was renamed as 'Indian Leather
Technologists' Association' (ILTA) and was incorporated in the year 1957 under the
Companies Act. During the last sixty years ILTA has been working towards weaving
all segments of people sincerely devoted to the cause of leather and allied
technology all over the country. ILTA represents India in the 'International Union of
Leather Technologists and Chemists Societies', the foremost body of its kind in the
world and has been doing so ever since 1956.


CLRI and ILTA in association with the tanner bodies of the country take pride in
being part of a massive effort in establishing Asia’s largest leather complex in
Kolkata, which is complete with all environmental safeguards. In the year 1999, ILTA
and CLRI conducted the most successful IULTCS congress in Chennai.
