  • MODEUROP, an official European Organisation to forecast leather and colour trends was started in 1960. MODEUROP Congress is being held twice every year to select the colour priorities of leathers, which will be in demand 18 months ahead of time. Indian leather industry has been represented in this Congress by CLRI in association with Council for Leather Exports (CLE).

    India is forging ahead in the fashion leather world with respect to colour selection and product design innovations are now being worked out. This would lead to higher unit value realisation and inturn more export earnings.


  • The interaction between the industry and CLRI to develop the colours has cemented a relationship, which is now being used for other projects. MODEUROP congress enables our tanners to go to the global market with their colour range which saves the process time up to three weeks which can be critical in the export business.

    Mr. Mohammed Sadiq, Scientist, SDDC of this institute is elected as the president of MODEUROP Congress for 2000-2001. For the first time a non-european is heading this organization.
