A novel surface applicator for coating flexible substrates

A novel surface applicator for coating flexible substrates which utilizes a juxtaposed conveyor system capable of being operated in either direction using a single power source, for causing movement, for a predetermined time, to the material the surface of which is to be coated with a liquid / paste kept in a contained resulting in surface coating of the flexible substrate without involvement of any manual operation.
The invention has been applied for Patent protection (Indian Patent application no. 967DEL2002;Patent pending)

An improved tanning device

The main feature of this device lies in providing an oscillating outer shell and transferring its rocking action to the inner vessel, that is subjected to an additional rotational movement with the help of gear and pinion and by the weight acting on the shelves contained in it, through the rollers on which it is positioned, thereby avoiding the presence of any moving part linked with the inner vessel, ensuring the absence of either wear & tear or loss of pressure generated in the device, resulting ultimately in the economy of energy consumption, capacity utilization, time and human labour, with uniform absorption of chemicals while processing leathers. The device finds potential application in leather processing industry for pretanning as well aspost tanning wet operations.
The invention has been applied for Patent protection (Indian Patent application no. 791DEL2000; Patent pending).

A novel solid separator useful for separating solid particles from any flexible substrate such as skins and hides

This is a novel device for separating solid particles such as salt mechanically from the surface of a solid substrate such as raw hides/ skins. It has enormous potential application in leather industry as a mechanical desalting device for raw hides/ skins. The main advantages of the present invention are the following.
The unique features and advantages associated with the device are the following.

  1. Raw materials can be dropped through the chute and the desalted material is collected at the rear end, thereby reducing the fatigue involved in manual desalting.
  2. The removed salts are collected separately without any wastage in a collector.
  3. The percentage of salt removed is very high, when compared to other methods.

The invention has been applied for patent protection (Indian patent application no. 788Del2006; Patent pending).

A novel scouring device for industrial applications
The device consists of a storage vessel with an arrangement to induce dabbling effect on unclean feed stock, perforated floor for separating the grit and other foreign materials from the feed stock and a heating arrangement which enables denaturing of cleaned feed stock. The device uses water for separating the grits. The used water from the scouring device can be reused both in the scouring process as well as downstream processes and the rejects like gritty materials, etc can be disposed safely as per statutory norms.
The invention has been applied for Patent protection (Indian Patent application no. 2136DEL06).

A novel transportable device for lifting and flaying animals

A novel transportable device for lifting and flaying animals has been developed. The device can be fitted on the rear side of a vehicle and can be operated by a flayer cum driver to lift the animal and also flay the hide if the animal is dead. This device has several advantages over the existing methods presently used for lifting animals.
The device has tremendous potential to improve the availability of quality hides from fallen animals to Indian leather industry if used by flayers and their societies in the country. The device also ensures proper collection of the remaining parts of the carcass for further processing into value-added products like bone meal, meat meal, tallow etc.
The invention has been applied for Patent protection (Indian Patent application no. 0200DEL2007;Patent pending).

A method for measuring gas permeability of any solid permeable material and a device therefor

A method for measuring gas permeability of any solid permeable material and a device therefor.

The invention provides an equipment to measure the gas permeability of a solid permeable material. The gas permeated through the material is collected in a solvent and the amount of gas permeated is estimated. The equipment measures the gas permeability of any solid permeable membrane with different thickness. It enables measuring the gas permeability of all types of ophthalmic lenses with different thickness and radius of curvature.
The process as well as equipment of the present invention is envisaged to have enormous potential applications in the pharmaceutical industry particularly contact lens manufacturers for calculating the accurate oxygen permeability values of the ophthalmic lens, which is an essential requirement for the ophthalmic lens. It has also potential application in measuring the gas permeability of gas masks used for mining as well as other different industrial purposes. In addition, the present invention finds potential application in food processing as well as packaging industry, where the permeability of plastic films to gases like oxygen, ethylene and flavour components is of particular interest. Moreover, the equipment of the present invention has also potential application in the agricultural sector for measuring gas permeability of the materials used in fumigation.
The invention has been applied for patent protection (Indian patent application no. 230Del2006; Patent pending).

A two-dimensional shape deformation device

  A two-dimensional shape deformation device
The invention relates to A two-dimensional  shape deformation device, in which a plus shaped sample is stretched in mutually perpendicular directions simultaneously to monitor the strain with time and also the shape deformation  behaviour of any sheet material in both axes.  The incorporation of a unique  locking mechanism enables loading of the sample in four directions. Moreover, the device enables monitoring the morphological characteristics and surface features using a computer/software compatible camera.  In view of this advantage, the present device provides the closest approximation to the in situ shape deformation/ plastic set/failure of the materials, creep, and creep fatigue studies in conjunction with the morphological characteristics. The device is also useful for studies on refractive index and birefringence as a function of two-dimensional strains.
This device has enormous potential industrial application for selecting right kind of materials for producing  various value added products by analysing the material  behaviour under different simulated stress conditions. Hence, it is envisaged to play a major role in quality control as well as materials management in respect of such prominent industries as leather products, footwear, textile, polymeric industry to name but a few.
