CSIR-CLRI in association with Council for Leather Exports supported by the various Leather and Leather Products Trade Bodies and Associations, its CSIR Network Partners, Institutions and Universities for Leather and in co-operation with the Indian Leather Industry will evolve a comprehensive strategy for the development of internationally competitive Leather Sector.

In the context of the preparation for the Twelfth Five Year Plan on “Leather & Leather Products,” discussions and debates on the role of the Institutions in the areas of :


• The articulation of long-term goals to be achieved in terms of growth, competitiveness and increased share in the global leather trade.
• The status of Leather, Leather Footwear, Leather Garments and Leather Goods Industry and their forward and backward linkages.
• Identification of issues and gap areas that need to be addressed to achieve long-term goals.
• Bench-marking Indian Leather Industry against the best practices of International Industry.
• To evolve a comprehensive strategy for the development of the internationally competitive leather industry.
• Forecasts the requirements for skilled manpower and technology.
• To identify environment related issues and suggest mitigation mechanisms.
• To make any other recommendations as may be appropriate for the sustained growth and competitiveness of the sector.
