About Us
Animal House Facility (AHF) in CSIR-Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI) was established to accomplish the in vivo study requirements of researchers from different departments. It is an important facility of CSIR-CLRI approved by the committee for the purpose of control and supervision of experiments on animals (CPCSEA, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Govt. of India, New Delhi). Researchers of CSIR-CLRI from various divisions utilize the AHF to carry out animal experiments for the development of various biomaterials. Biomaterials like collagen gel, keratin, collagen sheets, collagen foams and collagen-based scaffolds developed by CSIR-CLRI that have been tested in this facility are being used in the health sector across the world. All the activities associated with laboratory animal research at CLRI-Animal House Facility are performed as per the guidelines of CPCSEA and approved by the Institutional Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC).
Major activities of CLRI-Animal House Facility:
- Safety and bio-efficacy studies of various biomaterials in mice, rat, rabbit and guinea pig models
- Wound healing studies of various biomaterials in mice, rat, rabbit and guinea pig models
- Anticancer studies of various active compounds in experimental animals
- Antidiabetic studies of different active compounds using small laboratory animals
- Regeneration studies of bone, Liver and various organs
- Microbial culture of animal feed, drinking water, bedding, etc.
- Internal and external parasite monitoring.
- Gross necropsy and histopathological studies.
