Current Projects

The Regional Centre of CSIR-CLRI in Ahmedabad has been playing a pivotal role in empowering the rural artisans in unorganized sector through training, tutoring and mentoring on technology upgradation.  Several training programmes have been conducted at various rural venues and numerous artisans have been trained in leather goods & leather processing areas in order to develop opportunities for self-employment in the rural areas, thereby ensuring a sustainable income.

Women play a key role not only for the well-being of individuals, families and rural communities but also for overall economic productivity. Sitting at their home, they can take up petty jobs in their free time to gain additional income for their families.

Currently, CLRI Regional Centre, Ahmedabad is conducting training programmes in leather goods manufacturing funded by the Govt of Gujarat for these rural women in Gujarat so that they may add to their family income. Every year, this Centre is conducting 12 training programmes in leather goods manufacturing each of two months’ duration under skill upgradation programme to benefit nearly 300 rural artisans and 04 training programmes in leather goods manufacturing each of three months’ duration for nearly 100 SC women candidates to create opportunities for self-employment in the rural areas in Gujarat. All these training programmes are conducted on-site in the rural areas where they may not have many options for skill development.
